Hed Kandi Presents Disco Kandi - Double CD Compilation

When I first received this album to review, I was a bit skeptical of how a new release would present the Disco genre without sounding like a retro throw back K-Tel compilation, but I was pleasantly surprised. Disco Kandi is a fresh new look at the disco/ house cross over genre and delivers a fun filled listening experience that will appeal to all sorts of people.

London based Hed Kandi is a lifestyle concept combining a record label, a radio show, international club nights, and a distinguished graphic style. Formed in 1999 by DJ and A&R man Mark Doyle and catering to a generation of grown up clubbers and music lovers, Hed Kandi has become widely recognized for its series of eclectic compilations that tie directly into the weekly Hed Kandi radio show on JazzFM 102.2 in London and 100.4 in the Northwest of England. Worldwide listeners can tune into the program at http://www.jazzfm.com

Consisting of 2 CDs, Disco Kandi serves up a full 24 dance club length mixes that range from the percussive Love Theme by (Love) Tattoo to the screaming house diva herself Jocelyn Brown with Il Padrinos "That's How Good Your Love Is" (Club Mix). Other stand out tracks on disk 1 include Dusk Til Dawn (9pm club mix) - Danny Howells, Sugar - Deepstar, Do 4 Love (original vocal mix) - Fuel (Trance), So Much Better At Bad (Full Irony mix) - Latin Hustlers, Follow Me (Full Intention club mix) - Aly-Us, Gonna Miss Me (Soul Avengerz mix) - Dirty Tricks and Dove (I'll Be Loving You) (T&F vs Moltosugo club mix) - Moony.

Disk 2 highlights include The Adjuster - Breakdown, Raven Maize - Fascinated, Hakan Lidbo feat. 2MHz - Bad Girls Go To Hell, Tim Deluxe feat. Sam Obernick - It Just Won't Do, Layo & Bushwacka! - Love Story, and The Space Cowboy - I Would Die 4 U.

Overall, this is a great album. Disco Kandi has an uplifting U.S. Garage / house party feel to it with a bit of disco thrown in for good measure, but never approaches the sometimes cheesy quality of disco. Although I would have preferred a DJ mixed album, that certainly doesn't detract from the quality of the material included. Be sure to check this one out!
